There is a link in which anger precipitates a heart attack.
The first challenge is to understand how one responds to an anger situation can cause heart problems. Counsel is as follows, at the onset of recognition of anger emotions, train your body to ask, is this worth my health?
If you know you will respond to an event with anger,
- take a deep breath, or two or three,
- count to ten or a hundred
- walk away, cool off a few minutes,
- meditate or pray for a few minutes
- formulate a response which will not increase your blood pressure to dangerously high conditions in which compromise the ability of the system to push the blood through the necessary vessels.
I liked this one about anger which was posted by Joe Piscatella a writer on heart disease care and prevention.
“Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything on which it is poured.”
–Mark Twain
Can anger cause a heart attack to take place? You bet it can! For people who have underlying heart disease, the physical response to anger and rage can be lethal.
In a classic study at Harvard, researchers reported that the probability of suffering a heart attack in the two hours after an episode of anger increased two- to threefold.
